Summary

This hands-on workshop will guide participants through the process of preparing and managing social science data in alignment with FAIR principles. Using examples from the social sciences, it will cover topics such as data formats and file types, variable naming conventions, data dictionaries, metadata standards, and coding best practices. Participants are encouraged to bring their own datasets for the practical exercises.

Target Audience

Social scientists who would like to consider how to make their research data more open and reproducible.

Priority will be given to colleagues who are employed by the University if the course reaches capacity.

Learning Objectives 

At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Understand the elements of a data management plan,
  • Identify data formats and files.
  • Choose the most adequate variable naming conventions.
  • Prepara data dictionaries.
  • Understand metadata standards.
  • Adopt best coding practices.
